Why is this FAQ so out of date?

What is Profilactic?
Profilactic is a digital life aggregator that makes it easy to keep up with all of the content you and your friends create online.

Why should I use it?
We built Profilactic.com for anyone who contributes content to more than a few social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, etc. It can be a real chore to keep all of your profiles up-to-date and follow up on all of the content you create or comment on. Profilactic gives you the services and tools to make using all of your favorite social networking sites easier.

Profilactic also makes it easier for friends and family to keep up with you. Now you have one place where you can show off your Flickr/Webshots/Zooomr photos, your del.icio.us/Blue Dot/Digg bookmarks, your MySpace page and your Vimeo/YouTube videos (to name just a few of the sites you can manage on Profilactic).

Why did you pick such a stupid name?
We could ask your mom and dad the same question, but that would just be rude, wouldn't it? We wanted to pick a name that had something to do with the word "profile," was memorable and showed that we don't take ourselves too seriously. Mission accomplished.

Who is behind Profilactic?
The site was built by three guys based in Louisville, Kentucky. We all have day jobs and families, so this is something we work on in our spare time. Learn more about us here.

Hey, aren't you guys just like my friend's/roommate's/brother's Web 2.0 site? What a rip-off!
There have been a bunch of sites that have popped up around digital life aggregation and management in the past year or so; however, we're not a clone/copy/rip-off of any of them. Having used just about every site that anyone has claimed we're "just like" or "ripped off," I can say that our implementations are all very different.

What is my mashup?
Your mashup is the collection of all of the content you contribute on the web. Think of it as your master blog where your blog posts, photos, bookmarks, video clips, etc. are arranged by date. So if you posted 3 blog posts, dugg 10 stories, uploaded 7 photos and shot 2 videos today, all of those items would be organized in your Profilactic mashup.

And if you use our mashup badge (more on that below) or RSS feed, you will be able to embed your mashup in your own website or access it with your RSS reader.

What are clippings?
Our clippings feature is like your own personal web scrapbook where you can collect things about you. Are you in a photo from a friend's Flickrstream? Add it as a clipping. Did you write an article on Wikipedia? Add it as a clipping. Did you appear in a podcast? Clip it. Interviewed for an article? You guessed it, clip it.

And you don't have to be on our site to add a clipping. Using this "Add to clippings" browser shortcut (just drag it up to your Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox or your Links toolbar in IE), you can add clippings from anywhere on the web. Simply go to the page you want to clip and click the "Add to clippings" browser shortcut (you need a Profilactic account for this to work, BTW).

What are badges (and how do I use them)?
Badges are little snippets of HTML and JavaScript code that you can embed on your own website. We have two flavors of badge on Profilactic. One allows you to display the latest items from your mashup. The other shows the complete list of places where you hang out online.

What sites do you currently support?
Here is the full list of default sites we support. However, you can add an unlimited number of "custom" sites to your Profilactic account. So, basically, we support *every* site.

And if there is a site that you would like us to add, just let us know at feedback-at-profilactic-dot-com.

What features are you planning to add to Profilactic?
We've got quite a few things cooking back at our Profilactic lair. We are going to keep the lid on them until we are closer to launching them. You can check out our Building Profilactic blog to learn about new features.
