Edward Merrin is a fire science professor, an amateur film critic, and a baseball fan. Currently on sabatical from his professorship position (Edward Merrin's official residence remains the lovely Eugene, Oregon), Edward Merrin is enjoying the good weather of San Francisco, California while visiting his brother and sister-in-law. Edward Merrin is using his free time to research, and also to slow down and enjoy life. The slow pace of baseball helps Edward Merrin relax, and the sunshine of Northern California allows him to realize what is truly important in life. Edward Merrin's renewed interest in baseball (he hasn't paid much attention to the game in years, and now is enjoying the energy and jubilation that comes along with the sport) has reminded him of a time when his professorship did not take control of his life. Edward Merrin has recently freed himself of the shackles of his previous relationship, and living independently has allowed him to regain some of the strength he lost over the past decade. It's difficult to say what the future holds for Edward Merrin. Recent life changes have caused him to question the direction his life is going. Maybe a road trip is in order, or a period of self-discovery. They say life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Edward Merrin is slowly discovering that this may very well be the case.
