My likes: PRIME

Produced and directed by Ben Wu and David Usui,
of Lost & Found Films (lostfoundfilms.com).

Prime Burger Restaurant, in Midtown Manhattan
For many of the guys that work here, the restaurant is like a second home - some of them have been slinging burgers, making shakes, and waiting on customers at this location for decades. Opened in 1938, the place hasn't been altered since the early '60s, and it looks all the better for it.

Here the waiters and workers of Prime Burger discuss their views on their chosen profession, and the unique nature of the place itself.

THIS MUST BE THE PLACE

There's no place like home. It's where we live, work and dream. It's our sanctuary and our refuge. We can love them or hate them. It can be just for the night or for the rest of our lives. But whoever we may be, we all have a place we call home.

THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is a series of short films that explore the idea of home, or places that function as home - workplaces, hang out spots, etc. We want to figure out what makes them, how they represent us, why we need them.

We're always on the lookout for dwellings of all sorts. If you've come across any curious or eccentric homes or other curious places, feel free to send them along.

My likes: Ryan Hansen Pranks The Midnight Show

"Party Down" and "Veronica Mars" star Ryan Hansen wants his own hilarious pranks tv show, and members of the UCB sketch comedy group The Midnight Show are his first victims.

Director's Commentary:

Cale Hartmann wrote this video, and my goal in directing it was for it to be as realistic and amateurish as possible, without sacrificing any of the comedy. We set it up so that it looks like James Pumphrey is operating the camera, but in reality it's me (he passes it to me when Ryan hands it to him), and each gag was choreographed very carefully several times in order to get the timing just right. Lighting was also a challenge, as I wanted all of the action to be visible, but to not appear "lit," so the camera direction was chosen so as not to reveal any of the lighting sources (mostly kino 4 banks). In editing, I tried to emulate the look of the titles in Windows Movie Maker, which show up on most terribly-made prank videos. Then I desaturated the colors a bit, cropped the picture to 4:3 to make it look more like a home video, and added some tape noise to make it look like we shot on high-8 or miniDV (I actually shot it on the Panasonic HVX-200 using P2 card media).

Cast: Peter Atencio

Tags: pranks, violence, nsfw, comedy, sketch, short, Ryan Hansen and midnight show

ABOUT THE FILM //
In the summer of 1977, NASA sent Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 on an epic journey into interstellar space. Each spacecraft carries a golden record album, a massive compilation of images and sounds embodying the best of Planet Earth. According to Carl Sagan, “[t]he spacecraft will be encountered and the record played only if there are advanced space-faring civilizations in interstellar space. But the launching of this bottle into the cosmic ocean says something very hopeful about life on this planet.” While working on the golden record, Sagan met and fell madly in love with his future wife Annie Druyan. The golden record became their love letter to humankind and to each other. In the summer of 2010, I began my own hopeful voyage into the unknown. This film is a love letter to my fellow traveler.
