do google reader: Turner no Grand Palais: a copia q fez a diferença

do google reader: Good Girls vs. Bad Girls: The Black Backlash

Shared by Guga
EH ISSO!

FW09 was the season of the Bad Girl, epitomized by Balmain’s super-short mini dresses and edgy shoulders. Nowadays, the masses are sporting studs, metal hardware, chunky black boots, etc. It’s an overall hardcore look that’s available to purchase everywhere from Barneys to Forever 21.

So naturally it’s time for a black backlash.

Technically the backlash started in SS10, with Prada and Christopher Kane showing sweet looks fit for Alice Liddell instead of Alice Dellal. But thus far, FW10 has offered even less black and very few tough, spiky accessories. The look has been replaced by pastels, greys, beiges, whites, and (gasp) flats.

However, there are still a few designers dedicated to the most versatile shade in the world. Click through to see the color warfare…

Good Girls
In New York, the fade to white was most obvious at Marc Jacobs, where no color darker than gray appeared on the runway. Marc’s Kabuki girls from spring have evolved, or devolved, to the Marc Jacobs wallflowers of yore. The flat shoes, ankle socks, big cardigans, and pastel long dresses all read perfectly demure, not a touch of sin or mischief. All I could think of were some of Marc’s earliest ads featuring Sofia Coppola hunched over a giant perfume bottle at the edge of a pool: beautiful, a little awkward, mysterious, and strangely sexy in a natural way.

Also in NY, Rodarte’s monsters turned to angels, SUNO showed African-inspired brights, and Karen Walker showed no black at all, favoring light-colored prints and tons of rose, creme, grey and mint.

Bad Girls
Some designers, however, are sticking with naughty instead of nice. Alexander Wang departed from his relaxed sporty aesthetic to something hard, black, and all business. Altazurra was all edge, as was Preen, Donna Karan, and Louise Goldin.

Going Bad
Some designers known for their sweetness chose FW10 as the season to break away. Thakoon, Jason Wu, and most successfully Peter Som all strayed from their good-girl, pretty-dress image to something conceptual, grunge, and rebellious.

A Little Bit of Both
Straddling the line are Frank Tell and Christopher Kane. Tell, illustrating the trend towards lights, showed a collection that moved through the color wheel, from black to white via blue. And Christopher Kane, not wholly abandoning his Lolita of last season, chose black leather (the naughtiest of all), but adorned it with the girliest of embroidered flowers.

We’re excited to see what pops up in Milan and Paris, expecting Prada to push back against lovely with tough and Marc to stay light at Vuitton. By the end of fashion month we expect the rift between light and dark to grow. Which side will you be on?

"It Girl" Desiree Rogers

...But that doesn't certainly mean that she's out! I knew this would not last because this beautiful and accomplished woman has been hated ever since she stepped foot into The White House. She's not the only White House appointees and cabinet members who are hated just for being, there are others and that will make another blog post.

Sure "Crasher Gate" was the biggest stumble, but what other lapses of security had been reported about previous presidency's??? I have read some of the most stupid, inhumane, intra-racist comments from individuals who compared her appointed as an opportunity as a display of one-upmanship to First Lady, Michelle Obama. This is what comes from women and some men too, who have never been a friend and don't know what real friendship is. Real friends do not compete with one another, only "frenemies" do that!

Some people could not understand that many people were intrigued by the presence of seeing black women who were elegant, sophisticated, educated and accomplished in a formal setting and having both photographed together, leaving their haters as seeing them-not as friends but as competitors. I swear some people have yet to realize that they are their own worst enemies-no one else is. They are.

Sure these types of women have been in existence for a long time, but who else wrote about them other than Ebony Magazine??? Most popular and prominent women of color are just being written about by major fashion magazines because they are now very popular due to the Obama's in the White House, before that one would have thought that we were non-existent.

Pamela Joyner(a new cabinet appointee) and Desiree Rogers

I pray that she is in great health and spirits because Desiree is also a cancer survivor. Many of us knew of Desiree Rogers before the White House appointment and many of us who have been following her for years will continue to do so. Whatever decision caused her to reflect and decide to step down is between her, the Obama's and GOD and not ours, but that won't end the speculations and assumptions from those who envied her for just being.

Personally, I wish that she would have stayed because she has left an appointment which would have probably been a great legacy to her and the Obama White House. God forbid if she left because of the level of hatred towards her from those who hate everyone to include themselves. As a New Orleans native, she's equipped with resiliency and will persevere in the face of the storm and you people will definitely see her again!

E eu simplesmente adoro o trecho de “Back to Life”, do Soul II Soul, que Estelle canta no refrão da música. Ou seja: já adorei tudo.

“Freak”, na íntegra, pode ser ouvida aqui. E o clipe, dirigido pelo fodão Nabil Elderkin, deve estrear daqui a pouco…

I love how the news and reality is spun. Reality is a key word in all of this. It's the Salahis and their reality show aspirations that was her undoing. Making the White House the People's House was perhaps a little too much of a success. It looked as though anyone could go there whether for a State Dinner or to just hang out in the Lincoln bedroom. No invitation seemed to be necessary to gain entrance. Desiree was too busy being a personage to be bothered with details like national security or checking guest lists.

I took some heat for being critical of a girl with a dream but her dreams at times took on nightmarish proportions. Many believe that the reflecting pool was just not big enough or deep enough for her aspirations. Why stand behind the President and First Lady when you can stand next to them, or even better, in front? Besides stellar collections missing from New York Fashion Week, the most noticeable absence was Ms. D. I asked myself where she'd gone. Overexposure, like all the celebs who were conspicuously missing from the front rows, was my thought. Desiree is a celebrity like Lindsay, Paris and the Kardashian Collective, so I just assumed she was laying low in a very public way. Not for a moment did I think she'd cut up her titanium metro card that comes complete with full access to any front row at any show and preferred seating at the Maybelline counter in the Tent's holding pen.

Well, Desiree will be missed. The irony of this being Black History month and her resignation was not lost on me or probably many others. It's unfortunate that she took on a job that was so historic for a Black woman and then treated it like a launching pad. Patience and pacing one's ambition is a virtue. Her legacy would have been fantastic. Some people just have to have it all now, or preferably, last week. My hope is that the person who takes her place will also take on the responsibility of such an important position with grace, selflessness and maturity. Humility goes a long way, too.

do google reader: Dior’s Awkward Vogue Advertorial

I had dinner with former Fashionista editor Natalie Hormilla last night, Vogue came up.

Natalie: Have you seen Dior’s advertorial in the new Vogue?

Britt: Nope, though I haven’t read the whole thing.

Natalie: It features Lauren Remington-Platt and her sister–and it’s so weird.

Britt: I think I did see that, I thought it was editorial. It’s an ad?

Natalie: Yes, but it copies Vogue’s format down to the last detail including fonts and photo captions. Lauren and her sister awkwardly talk about playing in their mom’s couture as kids and how essential Dior is to their night on the town and I can’t figure out why they agreed to do this, why Vogue agreed to run it, and who thought it be a good idea.

Britt: I like how it mentions, “Fortunately, like any good modern-day princess, each sister understands the importance of giving back,” but then they talk about dinner parties.

Natalie: This is a really weird way to sell something. Do you think the girls thought they’d be the new face of Dior when they signed this contract?

Britt: Maybe. I’ve never seen propaganda so well disguised as editorial.
